It is always a little difficult to write about World Championships as a whole. Not because I hadn’t played in any (I have played in 8 of them already – 6 youth and 2 women ones!) but because it is a global, very serious and a knock out event.
First of all, unlike men world championship, we learned about the pairing of the 1st round just one month before the event. Which made the preparation not very easy, considering the fact that with my rating of 2454 I had to play an IM with 2409 – so a similar rating to mine. Then there appeared a question how to fly to Hatay, Turkey 🙂 It turned out though that there is a simple solution – first we had to fly to Istanbul and then to Hatay, so at least quite easy for us who lived in the nearby country. The problem was worse for many others though who missed their connecting flights due to severe weather conditions. My husband was laughing later that always when we have the World Championships there are some terrible cataclisms going on 🙂 Volcano, snow, etc.

Today was a day of the tie-breaks and those who have qualified after them are: GMs Kosteniuk, Lahno, Cmilyte, Zhu Chen, IM Skripchenko, WGMs Ruan Lufei and Huang Qian.

Drew T.Kosintseva (thus won the match 1.5-0.5) and qualified to the 3rd round of the World championship!

I have won vs T.Kosintseva with Black pieces today. The game went in a wild way – at first, I got a promising position after a opened the center up, then I made a couple of mistakes and got myself into a lost position. She could have gained decisive advantage by playing 21.h5 instead of Qe4. Then she did some more mistakes and we got into a R+n vs R+B endgame, where I was still worse (could be losing an isolated pawn) but she decided to win two more pawns (after I have given one for counterplay) and got her Knight out of play on h8. So, I managed to win it and the game.

Tomorrow I am white against her.

I won the tie-break vs IM Munguntuul and so am playing the 2nd round of the world championship tomorrow vs T.Kosintseva!

The 1st game of the tie-break ended in a draw after many fireworks, and the second game was even better!
