As usual, Hou played 1.e4 and the Pelikan appeared on the board. Black got a very good position after the opening and perhaps could have played for a win. Instead Ushenina opted for exchanges and drew.

THE SINQUEFIELD CUP

The third round was played yesterday and both games were drawn. It was difficult not to notice Nakamura wearing sunglasses which helped him (or not) to make a draw vs Carlsen with the Black pieces.

Ushenina-Hou

Ushenina had white pieces in the first game and got a pleasant position out of the opening. Later on she decided to sacrifice a pawn for initiative and two bishops but didn’t manage to get anything for it. Moreover, Black got a nice pawn attack on the kingside, brought all the pieces in and finished the attack with a nice Rook sacrifice!
