    1. Nxg6+ hxg6 [1…Rxg6 2. Qxe8+ Kg7 3. Rxg6+ hxg6 4. Rxg6+ Kh7 5. Qg8# or 1…Kg8 2. Nf8+ Rg6 (2…Kxf8 3. Rg8#) 3. Rxg6+ hxg6 4. Rxg6+ Kxf8 5. Qg7#] 2. Rh5+ Kg8 [2…gxh5 3. Qg7#] 3. Rxg6+ Rxg6 4. Qxe8+ Kf7 6. Rh7+ Ke6 [6…Rg7 7. Qxg7+ Ke6 (7…Ke8 8. Qe7#) 8. Qe5#] 7. Qe5#

Many forced variations once key move is found!

  2. Yuichi Sato says:

    (a) 1.Rh5 ( threatening checkmate with 2.Qxh7# ) R6e7 ( 1. …gxh5?? 2.Qg7# ) 2.Nxg6+ Kg7 3.Nxe7+ Kf6 ( 3. …Bg2+ 4.Rxg2+ Qxg2+ 5.Kxg2 +- ) 4.Rh6+ Kf7 5.Rxh7+ Kf6 ( or 5. …Kf8 6.Rg8# ) 6.Rg6#
    (b) 1.Rh5 R8e7 2.Nxg6+ Kg7 3.Nxe7+ Kf6 4.Rh6+ Kf7 5.Rxh7+ Kf6 ( or 5. …Kf8 6.Qc8#, Qd8#, or Rg8# ) 6.Rg6#
    (c) 1.Rh5 Kg8 2.Qxh7+ Kf8 3.Qf7#
    (d) 1.Rh5 Qxf3+ 2.Nxf3 R6e7 3.Qxc6 and if Black plays 3. …gxh5, then 4.Qf6+ Rg7 5.Qxg7#.

  3. Yuichi Sato says:

    P.S. I should have written ( 3. …Qxg1+ 4.Kxg1 +- ) , not ( 3. …Bg2+ 4.Rxg2+ Qxg2+ 5.Kxg2 +-) [ the (a) variation ].

    Well done!

  5. yelenadembo says:

Definitely an interesting idea but after 1.Rh5 he can play Qxg1 and exh5 and not lose the game instantly. So, 1.Nxg6! was played in the game.
